Kids Program FAQs
If you have any questions that are not covered in this section, please contact us and we will get back to you asap.
Learning a martial art is a great way for children to develop confidence and self-discipline along with many other great qualities and life skills. Our range of studies, exercises, techniques and games help boost their self esteem by helping them to closely interact with other children in a safe and controlled environment. At AMMA, we emphasise the team spirit in our classes and encourage our students to work together and support each other, helping those with less knowledge or confidence. Our grading system helps build self-discipline by giving our students a goal to work toward.
Is Your Program safe?
Absolutely! Our system, although effective in self-defence, carries a very low risk of injury in comparison with other sports. We also ensure that all our students wear the correct safety equipment. We not only protect our students from risk of injury with controlled training environment. We also match up students with training partners who are within their skill level.
Does my child have to Compete?
Absolutely not. Competitions will be available for students that do wish to enter but it is not a requirement. AMMA does believe that competition is important in the growth of a young athlete and citizen. There is great value in winning and losing.
Will my child lose weight?
Yes. Combined with a good diet, these classes will help keep your child in great shape with a great level of fitness.
What should my child wear to class?
Wear anything they feel comfortable in as long as it does not have any dangly ornamentation or sharp edges (eg. exposed zips). Most beginners will wear a t-shirt and either shorts or jogging bottoms. For GI class uniforms can be purchased at AMMA. This purchase can be made after you and your child are sure Jiu-Jitsu is right for them.
What is Sparring?
Sparring is working with a live, resisting partner. Your child therefore has the opportunity to test their skills and develop them under realistic conditions while minimizing the risk of injury.
Does my child have to spar?
No, it is entirely optional although we do encourage it. Our system is much easier to learn with practical application of the techniques rather that just drilling. Please feel free call us at AMMA if you have any concerns.
